Space Marine (Demo)
War, sucks... but this demo thankfully does not. Yes that demo I speak of is is none other the Warhammer 40ks' Space Marine, the full game hasn't hit the shelves yet but I'm going to take a quick look at what i saw in my play through of the demo.
For those of you that do not know, Warhammer 40k is a Si-fi table top game 25 years old. Its a game that has a solid cult following, rich lore, many previous video game attempts and even fan fiction. The fan base has always had hopes for a video game to bring the gritty, grim battles to their living rooms and Space Marine looks promising
The demo throws you instantly into a few battle royals against the always annoying ork forces. As soon as you step into the fight you notice that the learning curve is slim to none, you can either shoot or the more satisfying melee. Speaking of melee thats really the center piece to this game so far, if you wear down an enemy you open an option to "Execute" them. Which rewards you with a bit of health and a nice rated R kill scene.
So far the story is minimal but fitting, its hard to judge from a demo but not much is needed. The environments do convey the Grim war ridden future well, so far nothing striking but also nothing that distracts from the fast pace action.
The multi player is shipped with the full game and i can only speculate from what THQ has shown, it looks promising. It wont steal the spotlight from the big multi player games but hardcore warhammer fans are chomping at the bit to take chainswords to each other. THQ has posted a bit of video and stills of the multi player set up screens, boasting a lot of customization. Armor, weapons, the color and style of items your character sports. Something that will probably strike a cord with hobbyist that used to paint the table top figures. As far as the game types goes, theirs going to be a death match, king of the hill confirmed with probable a few more shipping.

Its only a glimpse and i dont make it a habit of reviewing demos, but i was inspire to post this after really enjoying logging an hour or so on a free download. Hard drive space is precious, but if your bored and feel like being a futuristic blood spattered lumber-jack give this demo a shot. When the full game drops ill be posting an in depth review, thanks for reading. North American release date is set for September 6.
